Iran identifies 3,375 killed in US‑Israeli attacks, including foreign nationals

The head of Iran’s Legal Medicine Organization announced that 3,375 people killed in US‑Israeli airstrikes between 28 February and 7 April have been identified, including 2,875 men and 496 women. Foreign nationals from Afghanistan, Syria, Pakistan, China, Iraq and Lebanon were among the dead.
Abbas Masjedi Arani, head of Iran’s state‑affiliated Legal Medicine Organization, told state broadcaster IRIB on Sunday that 3,375 fatalities from the US‑Israeli offensive have been identified using advanced forensic methods. The dead include 2,875 men and 496 women, with no details provided on the remaining four individuals. Foreign nationals were among the victims, including people from Afghanistan, Syria, Pakistan, China, Iraq and Lebanon, though an exact figure was not given.
War and Ceasefire
The US and Israel launched their joint offensive on Iran on 28 February, killing then‑Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and dozens of top military officials. A fragile two‑week ceasefire was brokered by Pakistan earlier this week, with support from Türkiye, China, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Tehran retaliated with drone and missile strikes against Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf states hosting US assets, and restricted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Failed Talks
The US and Iran held marathon negotiations in Islamabad on Saturday, but the talks ended without an agreement. The main sticking points included control of the Strait of Hormuz, uranium enrichment, war compensation and the timing of sanctions relief. Despite the lack of a deal, Iranian officials have said diplomacy remains part of a broader strategy, while insisting that strategic gains achieved during the conflict will not be conceded at the negotiating table.
