Iran ready for ‘balanced deal’ for lasting peace, Pezeshkian tells Putin

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told Russian President Vladimir Putin that Tehran is ready to reach a “balanced and fair agreement” that would guarantee lasting regional peace, but blamed US “double standards” for the failure of Islamabad talks. Putin criticised Western double standards and backed Iran’s demand for compensation and long‑term security guarantees.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared Sunday that Tehran is fully prepared to reach a “balanced and fair agreement” that would ensure lasting peace and security in the region, during a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The two leaders discussed regional developments after the collapse of US‑Iran talks in Islamabad, where 21 hours of negotiations failed to produce a deal. Pezeshkian said the main obstacle was “double standards” by the United States, and that an agreement would be achievable “if Washington adheres to international legal frameworks.”
Putin Backs Iran’s Demands
Putin criticised Western double standards and stressed the need to respect Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also backed Tehran’s legitimate positions, including demands for compensation for damages caused by recent military attacks and the need for long‑term security guarantees to prevent their recurrence. The Islamabad talks were part of broader efforts to end the US‑Israeli offensive on Iran that has killed more than 3,300 people since 28 February, before a fragile two‑week ceasefire was brokered by Pakistan with support from Türkiye, China, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
Strategic Alignment
The Pezeshkian‑Putin call underscores the growing strategic alignment between Tehran and Moscow amid escalating tensions with the West. Since the start of the offensive, Iran has restricted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key transit route for oil and gas. Türkiye, which has consistently supported de‑escalation and diplomatic engagement, continues to advocate for a peaceful resolution and has maintained close coordination with all parties, including Russia and Iran, to help stabilise the region.
