Iran says 'main part' of text with US finalized

Iran's Foreign Ministry said Thursday that the "main part" of the text of understanding with Washington has been finalized, accusing the United States of undermining diplomatic progress through shifting positions hours after President Donald Trump revealed he had canceled planned strikes.
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Thursday that the "main part" of the text of understanding with the United States has been finalized, while accusing Washington of disrupting the diplomatic process through contradictory positions. Speaking on state television Thursday evening, he stated that Tehran had communicated its stance "very clearly" to active mediators overseeing the indirect contacts between the two capitals. "The main part of the text of understanding has been finalized," Baghaei said, adding that Washington's "contradictory positions" are undermining progress.
'Illegitimate' conditions rejected
Baghaei said Tehran had made clear it would not accept what he described as "illegitimate" demands during the negotiations. He noted that the US had in recent days attempted to impose "unusual demands" on Tehran, but Iran showed it would "never surrender to illegitimate conditions." The spokesperson also said the diplomatic track had been affected by what he described as illegal US actions against the Islamic Republic.
Trump calls off military action
The Iranian official's remarks came hours after US President Donald Trump announced he had canceled planned strikes on Iran. Trump said discussions and final details of a potential agreement had been approved by multiple regional and international parties, signaling a shift toward diplomacy after weeks of heightened tensions. Baghaei confirmed that mediators remain active and that Tehran had conveyed its positions to them "very clearly."
