Iran has submitted its formal response to the latest US proposal for ending the war to Pakistani mediators, state media reported. Tehran’s priorities include lifting sanctions, ending the naval blockade, and ensuring shipping security in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran on Sunday delivered its official response to the latest US proposal for ending the ongoing regional war, sending the document to Pakistani mediators, according to Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency.

Focus on ending the war

“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s response to the latest US proposal for ending the war was sent to the Pakistani mediators today,” the agency said. “At this stage, the negotiations will focus on ending the war in the region,” according to the plan, though no details on the content of the Iranian response were provided. Iran’s official IRIB broadcaster said the response emphasizes ending the war imposed by the US and Israel on all fronts—particularly in Lebanon—and ensuring shipping security.

Key Iranian demands

A source cited by the semi-official Tasnim News Agency revealed that Tehran’s response calls for guarantees that Iran will not face another attack under any future political arrangement. The proposal also demands the lifting of US sanctions and stipulates that Iran retain management of the Strait of Hormuz if Washington fulfills certain commitments. Ending the naval blockade imposed on Iran immediately after signing a preliminary understanding is among Tehran’s top priorities. Iran also insisted on the removal of sanctions on its oil sales within 30 days, as well as the release of frozen Iranian assets under an initial agreement.

Pakistan confirms receipt

At an event in the capital, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed that Islamabad had received Iran’s response. “Right now, the field marshal informed me that (we) received Iran’s response. I cannot go further into details,” he said, referring to Chief of Defense Forces Asim Munir, according to local broadcaster Geo TV. Sharif also said Pakistan’s “sincere efforts” for de-escalation continue, Dawn News reported. The war, which began with US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, has caused widespread regional disruption, including the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. A Pakistan-brokered ceasefire took effect on April 8 and was later extended indefinitely by President Trump. Türkiye continues to support diplomatic efforts and has urged all parties to reach a lasting and verifiable peace agreement.
