Iran vows ‘all capabilities’ to counter rising US threats

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told his Pakistani counterpart that Tehran will use “all capabilities” to defend national interests against growing US threats. He accused Washington of breaching past understandings and showing insincerity in diplomacy, citing military aggression during negotiations and recent ceasefire violations.
Iran announced on Sunday that it will deploy “all capabilities” to protect its national security and interests in the face of escalating US threats. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi conveyed the message during a phone call with Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, according to state-run Press TV. Araghchi argued that recent US threats against Iranian ports, coastlines, and vessels—combined with what he called contradictory and unreasonable demands—demonstrate that Washington is not serious about diplomacy.
Accusations of bad faith
Araghchi accused the United States of repeatedly violating understandings reached over the past year. He cited US military aggression against Iran during negotiations in March and June 2025, as well as recent breaches of the Pakistan-mediated ceasefire between the two countries. “These are clear signs of ill intentions and a lack of seriousness in diplomacy,” Araghchi said. He added that Iran “will use all its capabilities to safeguard the country’s interests and national security.”
Upcoming talks and regional context
A White House official earlier confirmed that US Vice President JD Vance and special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will travel to Pakistan for a new round of negotiations with Iran. President Trump told Fox News that meetings are scheduled for Tuesday in Islamabad, possibly extending into Wednesday. Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has been severely disrupted since the US-Israeli war against Iran began on Feb. 28, and Washington imposed a naval blockade on Iran on April 13.
