Iran vows ‘firm response’ to military vessels in Hormuz

Tehran’s Revolutionary Guards have warned that any military ship attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz will face a “decisive” confrontation. Only non-military vessels following specific regulations are permitted. The warning follows unconfirmed reports of US Navy movement through the strategic waterway.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy issued a sharp warning on Saturday, stating that any military vessel trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz would be met with a “firm and decisive response.” The statement was published on the US-based social media platform X.
Full control over waterway, says IRGC
The IRGC claimed it maintains “full and intelligent control” over the strategic strait, a vital chokepoint for global oil shipments. According to the statement, passage is allowed only for non-military vessels and strictly under specific regulations. The Guard also dismissed reports of US warships transiting the area, vowing that any such attempt would trigger a “strong confrontation.”
Tensions high amid trilateral talks
The warning comes as Iran, the United States, and Pakistan hold ongoing trilateral negotiations in Islamabad, where Hormuz navigation rights are a central topic. Reports emerged Saturday that several US Navy ships crossed the strait for the first time since the US-Israeli war on Iran began on Feb. 28. Citing Axios, a US official confirmed the transit but noted it was not coordinated with Tehran.
