Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi returned to Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, on Sunday evening following a short trip to Oman, as Pakistani mediators work to revive stalled negotiations between Tehran and Washington, government sources told Anadolu. Araghchi is expected to hold talks with Pakistani leadership, including Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and may travel to Russia from Islamabad, the sources added. The visit marks Araghchi’s second trip to the Pakistani capital in less than 48 hours.
Previous meetings
On Saturday, Araghchi met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Dar, and army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir to discuss ways to restart high-stakes negotiations. The first round of US-Iran talks was held in Islamabad two weeks ago but failed to produce an agreement to end the war. The talks followed a two-week ceasefire brokered by Pakistan on April 8, which was later extended indefinitely by President Trump. Despite the ceasefire extension, no second round of talks has been scheduled, and the US has halted diplomatic travel for negotiations.
