The semi-official news agency, Tasnim, quoting Brigadier General Ali Arasteh, reported that a group consisting of commandos and snipers has completed a training program.
Iran has supported its traditional ally, the Bashar al-Assad regime, in its fight against armed opposition groups. Senior officials in Tehran have often denied Iran's involvement in the Syrian civil war, now in its sixth year.
Iran tries to deflect accusations that Assad's regime has enjoyed its military support through such statements. Iranian authorities have described Iranian citizens killed in the ongoing war in Syria using such euphemisms as “volunteers," “members of Revolutionary of Guard Corps," “veteran soldiers," “retired soldiers" or “advisors."
