Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi claimed Monday that "some neighboring states" hosting US forces and allowing attacks on Iran are "encouraging this slaughter" and must clarify their position. Araghchi said hundreds of Iranian civilians, including over 200 children, have been killed in US-Israeli bombings.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Monday claimed that "some neighboring states" hosting US forces and allowing "attacks on Iran" are "encouraging this slaughter" and must clarify their position. The accusation, posted on X, directly challenges Gulf countries that host US military assets and have been used as launch points for strikes against Iran.

Civilian casualties cited

"Hundreds of Iranian civilians have been killed in Israel-U.S. bombings, including over 200 children," Araghchi wrote. The figure is consistent with Iranian official reports that over 1,300 people have been killed since the US-Israeli campaign began Feb. 28, including former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and more than 150 schoolgirls in a Minab school attack.

Regional pressure

"Reports claim that some neighboring states, which host U.S. forces and permit attacks on Iran, are also actively encouraging this slaughter. Their stances should be promptly clarified," Araghchi added. The statement puts Gulf nations including Qatar, UAE, Bahrain and Kuwait on notice that Iran holds them accountable for US military operations launched from their territory.

Conflict context

The US and Israel launched joint attacks on Iran on Feb. 28, killing over 1,300 people according to Iranian authorities. Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and Gulf states hosting US assets, while also warning residents of Dubai and Doha to evacuate areas near potential targets. The conflict has drawn in multiple fronts, including a ground offensive in Lebanon that has displaced over one million people.
