Iran’s Araghchi heads to Moscow for high-level talks after Pakistan visit

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi left Pakistan for Moscow on Sunday as part of his regional diplomatic tour. He is expected to meet senior Russian officials, including President Vladimir Putin. Earlier, Araghchi visited Oman and reportedly conveyed a letter to the US via Pakistan outlining Tehran’s red lines.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi departed Pakistan for Moscow on Sunday, the next stop on his regional diplomatic tour, according to Iran’s official IRNA news agency. Araghchi had previously visited Oman and made a return trip to the Pakistani capital before continuing his journey. He is expected to hold high-level talks with senior Russian officials, including President Vladimir Putin.
Diplomatic tour amid US-Iran tensions
Araghchi’s regional tour comes as Pakistan mediates between Tehran and Washington to arrange a second round of US-Iran talks. The first round, held in Islamabad two weeks ago, ended without an agreement. Key sticking points include the Strait of Hormuz, the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, and Iran’s enriched uranium program. Iranian media reported that Araghchi conveyed a letter to the United States via Pakistan outlining Tehran’s red lines on nuclear issues and other matters.
Russia talks focus on regional coordination
In Moscow, Araghchi is expected to coordinate with Russian officials on regional security, the Iran nuclear file, and ongoing diplomatic efforts. Russia has maintained close ties with Iran and is a key player in broader Middle East geopolitics. No further details about the Moscow meetings have been released. After Russia, Araghchi is expected to return to Tehran to brief Iranian leadership on his diplomatic outreach.
