Iran’s Araghchi, Pakistan army chief discuss regional tensions after Israel strikes

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held talks with Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir following Iran’s missile response to Israeli ceasefire violations in Lebanon. Araghchi also spoke with his Egyptian, Qatari, and French counterparts.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held talks late Sunday with Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir to discuss regional developments after Iran responded militarily to Israeli ceasefire violations in Lebanon, Iran’s Islamic Students News Agency (ISNA) reported. The call came shortly after Iran launched multiple missile barrages toward northern Israel following an Israeli airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs that killed at least two people and injured 11.
Multiple diplomatic calls
ISNA later reported that Araghchi also held separate phone calls with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and French Foreign Minister Jean‑Noël Barrot. The talks addressed regional developments and Iran’s response to repeated Israeli ceasefire violations on the Lebanese front. The Iranian attack marked the first such bombardment since a fragile ceasefire in early April.
Pakistan’s mediation role
Pakistan has played a mediating role between Tehran and Washington since the outbreak of the Iran‑US conflict on February 28. A temporary ceasefire was reached on April 8, but negotiations later stalled amid disputes over implementation and subsequent regional developments.
