Iran’s foreign minister to US: time to withdraw forces from region long overdue

Abbas Araghchi asserts Tehran’s operations target “aggressive enemies” not regional states, as he signals respect for Saudi Arabia while calling for the expulsion of American troops.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi delivered a sharp message to Washington on Monday, declaring that the time for US forces to leave the region has already passed. In a post on social media, Araghchi emphasized that Iran views Saudi Arabia as a brotherly nation and respects the Kingdom, clarifying that Tehran’s military operations are directed solely at “aggressive enemies” who fail to provide security for either Arabs or Iranians.

Araghchi accompanied his remarks with a photograph of what he said was an E-3 Sentry AWACS aircraft damaged during an Iranian drone and missile strike on Saudi Arabia’s Prince Sultan Air Base. “Just look at what we did to their air force,” he wrote, reiterating his call for the withdrawal of US forces from the region.
US strategic aircraft damaged in recent strike
The comments follow a report by The Wall Street Journal, citing American and Arab officials, which stated that last Friday’s Iranian attack on the Prince Sultan Air Base damaged several US strategic aircraft, including an E-3 Sentry early warning plane and refueling aircraft. Twelve US personnel were reportedly injured in the strike. The base, located in Saudi Arabia, hosts American military assets as part of Washington’s regional footprint.
