A Palestinian doctor was wounded by Israeli gunfire in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin on Thursday. The incident occurred as the doctor was exiting a funeral home, according to local reports. The shooting adds to the mounting casualty toll in the territory since last October.

A Palestinian physician was shot and injured by Israeli military forces in the occupied West Bank on Thursday, according to local medical sources. The official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that the doctor was targeted by soldiers stationed inside the Jenin refugee camp in the northern part of the West Bank as he was leaving a funeral home. The wounded medic was subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment.

Escalating Violence in the West Bank

This attack on a medical professional occurs within the context of intensifying violence across the West Bank. Palestinian authorities state that since October 2023, Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 1,093 Palestinians, including residents of East Jerusalem. The same figures report nearly 11,000 injuries and approximately 21,000 detentions in the territory during this period.

International Court of Justice Ruling

The ongoing violence persists despite a significant international legal opinion issued last year. In July 2023, the International Court of Justice declared Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories illegal. The court's advisory opinion called for the dismantling of all Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, a ruling that Israel has rejected.
