Kuwait declares two Iranian diplomats persona non grata over attacks

Kuwait declared two Iranian diplomats persona non grata on Wednesday following Iranian missile and drone attacks on its territory that killed one person and injured 63 others, vowing to defend its sovereignty as regional tensions persist despite a recent ceasefire.
Kuwait's Foreign Ministry declared two Iranian diplomats "persona non grata" on Wednesday and ordered their expulsion within 24 hours, citing Iranian drone and ballistic missile attacks on Kuwaiti territory that killed one person and injured 63 others.
Kuwait expels diplomats, protests Tehran
The ministry summoned Iran's acting Charge d'Affaires and handed over a formal protest note, according to a statement published on social media. The decision includes a reduction in Iranian embassy staff in Kuwait City, and the expelled diplomats must leave the country within one day, the ministry said.
Strikes kill one, injure dozens
Kuwaiti authorities said recent Iranian strikes targeted key facilities, including diplomatic missions, causing significant damage across the territory. The ministry said Kuwait "reserves the full and inherent right to defend itself and to take all necessary measures to preserve its sovereignty," adding that it retains the right to respond to the attacks.

Gulf tensions persist despite ceasefire
Regional tensions have escalated since late February when the US and Israel launched military action against Iran, killing more than 3,000 people — including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and senior military commanders. A Pakistan-brokered ceasefire took effect on April 8, though diplomatic efforts to secure a broader settlement have so far failed.
