Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held separate talks with his Iranian and Brazilian counterparts on the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting in New Delhi on Thursday, discussing efforts to de-escalate Middle East tensions and reviewing schedules for upcoming bilateral contacts.

During his meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Lavrov discussed ongoing negotiations aimed at resolving the Middle East conflict involving Washington, Israel and Tehran. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Lavrov underscored the need to preserve existing ceasefire arrangements and safeguard fragile diplomatic initiatives seeking comprehensive understanding between Iran and the United States. He reaffirmed Moscow's willingness to facilitate mutually acceptable compromises between the parties, while both ministers pledged to deepen the strategic partnership between their countries.

Brazil meeting reviews regional developments

Lavrov subsequently met with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira in a session characterized by cordial diplomatic tones and mutual trust. The ministers exchanged perspectives on developments affecting the Persian Gulf and Latin America, while also confirming schedules for upcoming bilateral engagements. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership between Moscow and Brasília.

The BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting convened in New Delhi on Thursday as part of regular consultations among the emerging market bloc's member states.
