Mali's constitutional change: French no longer official language

During the signing of the new constitution, Mali's President, Assimi Goita, attracted attention by posing with a model of the Bayraktar AKINCI Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV) on his desk.

Mali has enacted a constitutional amendment to revoke French's status as the official language.

Former French colony Mali's latest constitutional changes entail the demotion of French from its official language status. Instead, all 13 national languages spoken in the country will now be granted official language status. Having previously employed French as the official language since gaining independence in 1960, Mali's move marks a significant shift in its linguistic policies.

Notably, President Assimi Goita's symbolic act of displaying the Bayraktar AKINCI Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV) model during the signing event garnered considerable attention. The previous constitution in Mali was commonly known as the colonial-era constitution, further highlighting the significance of the new constitutional amendments.
