Moscow emphasizes significance of Mishustin’s China visit amid regional tensions

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Russia attaches great importance to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin’s visit to China on Nov. 3–4, expressing hope that Chinese President Xi Jinping will receive him during the trip, as both sides continue to strengthen their strategic partnership through regular high-level dialogue.
Russia said it views Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin’s upcoming trip to China as a key element in its growing partnership with Beijing. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters in Moscow on Friday that the visit, set for November 3–4, reflects the “special nature” of the bilateral relationship between the two neighbors.
Bilateral relations and Xi meeting
Peskov noted that Moscow expects Mishustin to hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping during his stay. The Russian premier will also attend the 30th annual meeting of Russian and Chinese prime ministers in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou, alongside Premier Li Qiang. “We attach great significance to this visit and hope it will further deepen our long-standing cooperation,” Peskov said.
Regular communication between leaders
The Kremlin spokesperson underlined that Russian President Vladimir Putin and China’s Xi maintain consistent communication channels, both directly and through government institutions. These exchanges, he said, serve as “an important foundation” for advancing joint projects and regional initiatives involving the two major powers.
Ukraine conflict and media reports
Asked about developments related to the conflict in Ukraine, Peskov declined to confirm reports on the use of specific missile types, saying such matters fall under the jurisdiction of the Defense Ministry. He also dismissed claims from US media that Washington canceled a potential summit between Putin and US President Donald Trump over a Russian memo concerning Ukraine. “Both sides offered differing interpretations,” he told journalists, urging them to rely on official statements from the foreign ministries involved.
