Pakistan voiced grave alarm Thursday over attacks targeting its "brotherly countries" Türkiye and Azerbaijan, warning the incidents risk further regional escalation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed solidarity with Ankara and Baku while calling for maximum restraint and dialogue after drones from Iran struck Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan exclave and a missile targeted Turkish airspace.

Pakistan issued a strong condemnation Thursday of recent attacks on Türkiye and Azerbaijan, warning that such actions violate international law and threaten regional stability. The Foreign Ministry expressed "serious concern" over the incidents targeting the two nations, with which Islamabad maintains close fraternal ties, and reaffirmed Pakistan's solidarity with both countries.

High-Level Diplomatic Engagement

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif delivered separate messages expressing solidarity with Turkish and Azerbaijani counterparts. "I join the people of Pakistan in expressing complete solidarity with our brave Turkish brothers and sisters at this challenging time," Sharif stated, calling for comprehensive dialogue to prevent further escalation. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar separately spoke with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, with both leaders agreeing to remain in close contact as developments unfold.

Context of Attacks

The diplomatic outcry follows Thursday's drone attack on Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan exclave, which injured four people and damaged infrastructure, including the international airport terminal. Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry confirmed the drones were launched from Iranian territory. The incidents occurred against the backdrop of the sixth day of US-Israeli strikes on Iran, which have killed at least 926 people including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The regional turmoil has also spilled into NATO territory, with a ballistic missile from Iran tracked toward Turkish airspace intercepted Wednesday by NATO defense systems over the Eastern Mediterranean.
