Pakistan, Egypt pledge joint effort for Gaza ceasefire and reconstruction

Pakistan and Egypt have committed to working jointly to ensure the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire and support reconstruction efforts in the war-ravaged territory. The diplomatic understanding emerged from talks between Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty during the latter's two-day official visit to Islamabad.

Shared stance on Palestine

Following their discussions at the Foreign Ministry, both ministers emphasized their nations' unified position on the Palestinian issue. Minister Abdelatty stated that establishing an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital represents the only viable and lasting solution. He affirmed Egypt's continued commitment to resolving the situation in Palestine in accordance with international law and United Nations resolutions, while acknowledging Pakistan's consistent support for Egyptian mediation efforts.

Ceasefire implementation commitment

Foreign Minister Dar confirmed that Islamabad would collaborate closely with Cairo to ensure the Gaza ceasefire holds and transitions into lasting peace. The ministers agreed that both countries would play active roles in facilitating the agreement's full implementation. The diplomatic coordination comes as part of broader international efforts to stabilize the situation in Gaza following recent hostilities.

Enhanced bilateral cooperation

Beyond Middle East diplomacy, the two nations agreed to significantly expand their economic, defense and security partnerships. Official reports indicated plans to boost the current $300 million bilateral trade volume, which both ministers acknowledged falls short of the countries' commercial potential. The officials announced that senior representatives would meet in early 2026 to prepare for resuming joint ministerial meetings that have been suspended since 2010, marking a new chapter in Pakistan-Egypt relations.
