Pakistan military thwarts major suicide attack near Afghan border

Pakistan's military announced it successfully prevented a major terrorist attack in the restive North Waziristan district near the Afghan border, eliminating three militants who were preparing a vehicle-borne suicide assault. The operation conducted Saturday averted what army officials described as a potential catastrophic event in the sensitive border region.

Intelligence-Based Operation

According to a statement from the military's media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces acted on credible intelligence about militant activity in the Jhallar area. During the engagement, troops destroyed a vehicle that was being rigged for a suicide attack. The military emphasized that the timely operation prevented significant casualties and damage.

Ongoing Security Measures

Following the initial engagement, security forces launched comprehensive clearance operations in the surrounding area to eliminate any remaining threats. The Pakistan army has maintained heightened security operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, particularly in the tribal districts bordering Afghanistan, where militant activity has persisted.

This operation comes amid increased militant activity in the region. Last week, a suicide bombing killed seven security personnel in North Waziristan, while earlier this month the military reported eliminating approximately 80 militants in various operations across several districts including North Waziristan, South Waziristan, Mohmand, and Bannu.
