The Palestinian Prisoner Society reports that Israeli authorities currently detain ninety Palestinian women under severe conditions at Damon Prison. The detainees include expectant mothers, minors, journalists, and cancer patients. Human rights monitors document systematic abuses including forced stripping, solitary confinement, and denial of adequate food and medical care, marking an escalation in violations since October 2023 when over seven hundred women were arrested.

Palestinian rights organizations report that Israeli security forces currently hold approximately ninety Palestinian women in various detention facilities, with the majority incarcerated at Damon Prison in northern Israel. The detainee population includes two underage girls and a pregnant woman. Among those held without trial are twenty-five administrative detainees, alongside three media professionals and two individuals receiving treatment for cancer.

Systematic abuse and medical neglect

Incarcerated women confront severe mistreatment according to documentation by the Palestinian Prisoner Society. Detainees endure inadequate nutrition, restricted access to healthcare, and prolonged periods of isolation. Reports indicate that female prisoners undergo invasive strip searches and physical assault. Two cancer patients within the facility reportedly receive insufficient medical attention, raising serious concerns regarding humanitarian standards.

Surge in arrests since october 2023

Human rights monitors have recorded the detention of over seven hundred Palestinian women since hostilities escalated in October 2023. Security operations primarily target the West Bank and East Jerusalem, though documentation remains incomplete regarding Gaza arrests. Authorities typically justify these apprehensions under accusations of incitement, though critics argue such charges lack substantive legal basis and serve to suppress Palestinian voices.

Escalating violence in the West Bank

The imprisonment figures emerge against a backdrop of intensified military operations throughout occupied Palestinian territories. Palestinian authorities document that Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 1,133 individuals in the West Bank since October 2023, while injuring approximately 11,700 others. Concurrently, arrests have reached nearly 22,000, including women detained as leverage to pressure their family members into cooperation.

International legal scrutiny

These developments unfold following significant international judicial intervention. In July 2024, the International Court of Justice issued an advisory opinion declaring Israel's prolonged occupation of Palestinian territories unlawful under international law. The ruling demanded the dismantling of settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, though implementation remains absent as detention and settlement expansion continue unabated.
