Pentagon denies US troops will enter Gaza despite base reports

A senior Pentagon official has denied that American soldiers will be deployed into the Gaza Strip, countering Israeli media claims of a $500 million base near the border. While planning for an international stabilization force is underway, the official stressed that no US troops would be stationed inside Gaza, calling related reports inaccurate.
The United States has firmly rejected allegations that it plans to deploy military personnel into Gaza, following Israeli media reports about a proposed $500 million base near the territory. A Pentagon official clarified that while options for an international force are being developed, no American troops will enter Gaza, emphasizing that such reports are false.
Pentagon Statement on Troop Deployment
A high-level Defense Department official, speaking anonymously, stated that the U.S. military is working with international partners to plan for a potential stabilization force near Gaza as part of a broader peace initiative. However, the official explicitly said, "To be clear, no U.S. troops will be deployed into Gaza. Any reporting to the contrary is false," addressing what they called inaccuracies in Israeli media.
Israeli Media Reports and Context
Outlets like Ynet and Shomrim had reported on plans for a sizable U.S. base capable of housing thousands of troops near the Gaza border, describing it as a significant escalation in American involvement. Yedioth Ahronoth cited anonymous Israeli officials who noted this would be the first large-scale U.S. military installation on Israeli soil, deepening Washington's role in post-conflict stabilization efforts in Gaza.
Current US Role and Ceasefire Details
Currently, around 200 U.S. military personnel are stationed in Kiryat Gat, southern Israel, monitoring a ceasefire through the Civil-Military Coordination Center, which is set to oversee humanitarian aid distribution in Gaza. The ceasefire, based on a U.S.-backed plan, includes phases for hostage releases, reconstruction, and establishing a new governance framework without Hamas, as the conflict has led to over 69,000 casualties in Gaza since October 2023.
