Putin says Russia-India trade rebounds as ties deepen

Putin said bilateral ties have remained resilient over decades and are now expanding across several strategic sectors. He noted that trade had slipped slightly last year but has returned to growth in 2026, with Modi’s attention to relations contributing to the recovery.

The Russian president said Moscow is also seeking to increase fertilizer deliveries to India, supporting the country’s large agricultural sector. Cooperation in nuclear energy and high-technology industries is likewise continuing, according to Putin.

Putin and Modi prepare for new talks

Putin said he expects to meet Modi at an upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit and indicated that another meeting could take place later this year. Jaishankar delivered a message from Modi expressing the Indian leader’s anticipation of their next talks.

The Indian foreign minister also said Modi hoped Putin would take part in the next BRICS summit. He described economic relations as substantial and emphasized the strength of cooperation between Moscow and New Delhi.

Russia and India coordinate on global issues

Jaishankar and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov separately held talks in Moscow on international developments. According to Russia’s Foreign Ministry, their discussions covered the situations in Afghanistan, Iran and Ukraine.

The two foreign ministers also reaffirmed their intention to coordinate closely within the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS and the G20. They agreed to maintain regular dialogue and further strengthen diplomatic coordination across those international platforms.
