Russian President Vladimir Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that a revised US peace proposal could form the basis for ending the Ukraine conflict, while emphasizing Moscow's satisfaction with its current military gains. The comments came during a Security Council meeting where Putin claimed Russia demonstrated flexibility in recent Alaska talks.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has indicated that a US-drafted peace proposal could serve as a foundation for settling the ongoing war in Ukraine. During a meeting of the Russian Security Council, Putin acknowledged the revised 28-point American document contains elements Moscow is prepared to discuss, marking a significant statement amid continued hostilities.

Potential Basis for Negotiations

The Russian leader specifically endorsed the updated American proposal that resulted from the recent Alaska summit between US and Russian officials. "I believe that it can be used as the basis for a final peace settlement," Putin stated, according to Tass news agency. This represents one of Moscow's most direct positive responses to international mediation efforts since the conflict began.

Claimed Flexibility in Alaska Talks

Putin asserted that Russian negotiators had already shown willingness to demonstrate "the flexibility requested by Washington" during discussions in Anchorage. He described the Alaska meeting's primary purpose as confirming Russian agreement with the proposal's framework despite what he characterized as remaining "difficult issues" between the parties.

Satisfaction with Military Situation

Alongside his diplomatic comments, the Russian president maintained a firm stance on military developments, stating Moscow is "satisfied" with its current territorial gains along the front lines. Putin suggested that Kyiv's continued refusal to engage in direct negotiations is enabling further advances by Russian forces in the conflict.
