Qatar and Pakistan announced encouraging progress in US-Iran mediation efforts at the Lake Lucerne Summit, stating that a high-level committee agreed on a 60-day roadmap aimed at securing a final agreement and establishing technical working groups.

Qatar and Pakistan announced significant diplomatic headway early Monday following the conclusion of the first round of high-level US-Iran talks at the Lake Lucerne Summit in Switzerland, according to Anadolu Agency. The two countries issued a joint statement highlighting what they described as a breakthrough in the ongoing mediation process between Washington and Tehran.

"A positive and constructive atmosphere prevailed during the first day of the Lake Lucerne Summit, where encouraging progress was achieved, including the establishment of a mechanism to continue technical discussions," the joint statement said. The communique emphasized that both parties had committed to sustained engagement through newly created institutional frameworks designed to address the Iranian nuclear program and sanctions-related disputes.

Roadmap and security measures

The mediation partners established a high-level committee tasked with overseeing political dimensions of the negotiations, which will receive regular reports from lead negotiators and supervise specialized working groups. "The high-level committee agreed on a roadmap aimed at reaching a final agreement within 60 days, paving the way for the immediate start of a new round of technical talks," the statement said, noting that the accelerated timeline reflects urgent regional security concerns.

Delegates also established a dedicated communication channel between the parties to prevent incidents during the negotiation period. "Additionally, a communication channel was established between the parties for the period specified in paragraph five of the Memorandum of Understanding, to avoid incidents and misunderstandings, ensuring the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz," the document stated. The talks represent the most significant bilateral engagement between Washington and Tehran in recent months, with Doha and Islamabad facilitating discussions that produced last week's memorandum.
