Russia welcomes Türkiye's continued mediation role in Ukraine conflict

The Kremlin has expressed approval for Türkiye's ongoing diplomatic efforts to facilitate peace in Ukraine. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov, speaking from a forum in Ashgabat, stated Moscow welcomes President Erdogan's readiness to act as an intermediary in the settlement process.

Russia has formally endorsed Türkiye's sustained diplomatic engagement aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, addressing reporters in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, stated that Moscow views Ankara's intermediary role positively, highlighting Türkiye's unique position as a trusted channel.

Official endorsement from the Kremlin

"The Turkish president spoke about Türkiye's readiness and willingness to continue its intermediary activities and contribute to the peace process, which is welcomed by our country," Peskov said during a briefing on the sidelines of the International Forum for Peace and Trust. This public affirmation underscores the value Moscow places on Türkiye's distinct diplomatic approach, which has maintained open dialogue with both sides throughout the war.

Limited discussion among Central Asian leaders

When questioned about whether the Ukraine issue featured in discussions among Central Asian leaders at the Ashgabat forum, Peskov indicated it was not a primary topic. "They practically did not touch upon it," he remarked, suggesting the regional focus of the summit lay elsewhere. This points to the specialized nature of Türkiye's mediation, which operates outside broader regional forums.

Uncertainty over US involvement in talks

The Kremlin spokesman also addressed questions regarding potential US participation in upcoming diplomatic meetings involving Ukraine and the European Union. Peskov stated Moscow had no information on whether US President Donald Trump would send representatives, referencing Trump's conditional statement that US attendance would depend on the prospect of a tangible deal.
