At least eight people were killed and dozens injured in massive Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine's capital and the eastern city of Dnipro early Tuesday, regional officials said, as air raid alerts activated across much of the country and Poland scrambled aircraft to protect its airspace.
Residential areas struck in Dnipro and Kyiv
In Dnipro, Governor Oleksandr Hanzha said on Telegram that Russian missiles and drones had struck several residential buildings, killing at least five people and wounding 25 others. Kyiv City Military Administration head Tymur Tkachenko reported three fatalities and 29 injuries in the capital from the same wave of attacks, while Mayor Vitali Klitschko noted on Telegram that multiple neighborhoods had lost power during the ongoing assault.
Regional air defense and shelter measures
Thousands of residents sought shelter in Kyiv as massive clouds of smoke rose from the city center, with authorities warning of continued drone activity in Ukrainian airspace. Poland’s Air Force said on X that it had mobilized aircraft to protect Polish airspace amid the strikes, while Ukraine’s Air Force issued warnings regarding missile threats and reported activity involving Russian strategic aircraft and cruise missile launches from naval vessels.
