SDF intensifies attacks on Aleppo for second day, Syrian army responds

For the second consecutive day, the SDF, affiliated with the PKK/YPG, has shelled civilian areas in Aleppo, northern Syria. Syrian military forces clashed with the group on key fronts, following attacks that killed at least five people on Tuesday, as reported by Syrian state media.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), linked to the PKK/YPG, renewed artillery attacks on residential neighborhoods in Aleppo, Syria, for a second straight day on Wednesday. The escalation comes just a day after similar strikes resulted in multiple civilian casualties, according to Syria's official SANA news agency.
Clashes on Key Fronts
The agency reported that Syrian Arab Army units engaged in fierce clashes with SDF militants along the strategic Castello and al-Sheihan axes in Aleppo province. These areas are critical for the control of territory in northern Syria, a region where Türkiye has consistently highlighted security threats emanating from terrorist groups.
Civilian Areas Targeted
SANA stated that the al-Suryan neighborhood in northern Aleppo was hit by the latest shelling. As of Wednesday morning, there was no immediate information on possible new casualties from the renewed assaults. The attacks underscore the ongoing volatility in northern Syria, bordering Türkiye, which has repeatedly warned against terrorist activities threatening its national security.
Previous Day's Casualties
The violence on Tuesday proved deadly, with at least five people killed and 16 others wounded in a series of attacks attributed to the SDF across Aleppo. The persistent targeting of civilian zones raises severe humanitarian concerns and complicates stability efforts in the war-torn country. Türkiye identifies the PKK/YPG as a single terrorist organization and views its presence near its southern border as a direct national security risk.
