Somalia receives Turkish equipment to modernize agriculture sector

Somali Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Mohamed Abdi Hayir Mareye said the support from TİKA will enhance institutional efficiency and accelerate service delivery, expressing gratitude to the Turkish development agency for delivering the first phase of equipment requested during a 2025 Ankara meeting.
Somalia's Agricultural and Irrigation Ministry received modern office equipment from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) on Sunday during a ceremony in the capital Mogadishu. Minister Mohamed Abdi Hayir Mareye said the delivered support will enhance institutional efficiency and accelerate service delivery as the Horn of Africa nation works toward food self-sufficiency. "I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to TIKA, the development agency of our brotherly nation, the Republic of Türkiye, for delivering today the first phase of their response," Mareye said following the event.
The equipment — including computers, printers, and television screens — was requested during a meeting with TİKA President Abdullahi Eren in Ankara in 2025. "We deeply value this partnership and look forward to continued cooperation with our Turkish friends," Mareye said, adding that the ministry will utilize the technology to modernize administrative operations.
Historical cooperation framework
Somalia and Türkiye developed their close friendship in 2011 after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, then serving as prime minister, paid a landmark visit to Mogadishu. Since that time, Turkish humanitarian and technical development assistance to Somalia has exceeded $1 billion, spanning health, education, municipal services, and infrastructure.
