Sudan paramilitary force accused of executing 38 civilians

The Sudan Doctors Network has accused the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of summarily executing 38 civilians in the town of Umm Dam Haj Ahmed. The group condemned the act as part of a broader campaign of violence, calling for international intervention as the conflict in Sudan continues to escalate.
A leading Sudanese medical organization has reported that the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) carried out the summary execution of 38 civilians in North Kordofan state. The Sudan Doctors Network stated the killings occurred in the town of Umm Dam Haj Ahmed, describing the act as part of a systematic policy of targeted violence.
A Pattern of Violence
In a strongly worded statement, the medical group labeled the incident a "barbaric act" that reflects a widespread pattern of identity-based killings by the RSF across Sudan. They further characterized it as the latest chapter in what they allege is an "ethnic cleansing and genocide campaign" being waged in regions like North Kordofan and Darfur.
International Inaction and Displacement
The network issued an appeal to the United Nations Security Council and the wider international community, urging immediate action to halt the violence and hold the rebel group's leaders accountable. This plea comes alongside data from the International Organization for Migration indicating a surge in displacement, with approximately 1,850 people fleeing North Kordofan due to deteriorating security.
Escalating Conflict and Denials
The accusation emerges amidst a significant territorial advance by the RSF, which recently claimed control over the town and captured the key city of El-Fasher in Darfur. While the paramilitary group has denied other reports of mass executions, including those within a hospital, verified attacks by the RSF have resulted in over 1,200 healthcare worker and patient fatalities since the war began in April 2023. The ongoing conflict has resulted in nearly 20,000 deaths and displaced millions.
