More than 900 Turkmens left Tal Afar, Iraq, and walked for 40 days in harsh Winter conditions to Turkey's border city of Hatay.
Mostly women and children fled Tal Afar
The Turkmens received medical attention
Hatay's Aid Association (HAYAD) provided the Turkmens with clean clothes

Most Turkmen speak Turkish, so communication was not an issue
The Turkmens traveled from the Tel Afar region to Hatay from Syria on foot

Volunteers from across Hatay came to support and aid the Turkmens
There is a distance of over 600 kilometers between Tal Afar and Hatay
