US and Israeli forces struck 9,000 targets during the first 10 days of the war on Iran, Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani said Thursday, according to state television. The figure dwarfs the 1,450 targets hit during last June's 12-day conflict, as debris removal operations continue in the capital.

US and Israeli forces struck 9,000 targets during the first 10 days of the war on Iran, Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani said Thursday according to Iranian state television, revealing the unprecedented scale of the ongoing military campaign. Zakani noted that during the 12-day war in June 2025, a total of 1,450 targets were hit, underscoring how the current conflict has intensified dramatically.

Debris removal underway

The mayor added that large-scale debris removal operations are underway in Tehran, as the capital has been heavily targeted throughout the campaign. Residential areas, military installations and infrastructure have all sustained damage, with power outages reported and civilian casualties mounting. Iranian authorities report more than 1,300 killed and 17,000 injured since the conflict began.

Escalating campaign

The 9,000 target figure exceeds the combined total of the previous June war by more than six times in just 10 days, reflecting the intensity of "Operation Epic Fury." Israeli officials announced Thursday they have carried out more than 6,000 airstrikes on 3,400 targets, while US Central Command has reported striking over 5,000 targets and destroying more than 50 Iranian naval vessels.

Conflict context

Israel and the US launched a joint attack on Iran on Feb. 28, killing Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and numerous senior officials. Iran has retaliated with approximately 3,200 missile and UAV attacks targeting Israel and Gulf countries hosting US assets. The previous June 2025 strikes occurred during US-Iran negotiations mediated by Oman, but the current campaign shows no signs of diplomatic off-ramps as fighting continues into its 13th day.
