Time magazine’s 2026 list of the 100 most influential people has sparked global outrage by featuring Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — accused of genocide in Gaza — alongside Donald Trump as top leaders. The magazine praised Netanyahu’s political comeback and military operations, drawing fierce condemnation from human rights advocates.

Time magazine’s 2026 “100 Most Influential People” list has provoked widespread fury after naming Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — wanted by the International Criminal Court for genocide in Gaza — as one of the world’s most influential leaders. The list also prominently featured US President Donald Trump, Netanyahu’s closest ally, in a top position.

Time praises Netanyahu’s ‘comeback’ amid atrocities

Recalling that Netanyahu was held responsible for Israel’s catastrophic failure during Hamas’s October 7, 2023 operation, Time wrote: “His political comeback since then may have even surpassed Trump’s.” The magazine also praised Israel’s destruction of Hezbollah’s infrastructure, joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran’s nuclear program, and the rescue of hostages in Gaza — all while tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians, including women and children, have been killed.

Outcry over glorifying a war criminal

Critics slammed the publication for glorifying a leader accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity, pointing to the ongoing slaughter in Gaza, as well as Israeli attacks on Iran, Lebanon, and Syria. Trump, who promised to end wars before re-entering the White House, launched attacks on Iran and ordered the abduction of Venezuela’s president. Time, however, focused on Trump’s “tax reform.” The list also included Pope Leo XIV, Mexico’s Claudia Sheinbaum, Canada’s Mark Carney, and others.
