President Trump alleges his predecessor made a "big mistake" by revealing classified information during a podcast. Obama had stated aliens "are real" but later clarified he saw no evidence of extraterrestrial contact during his presidency.

President Donald Trump accused former President Barack Obama Thursday of disclosing classified information by publicly confirming the existence of extraterrestrial life. Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, Trump said: "He gave classified information. He's not supposed to be doing that. He made a big mistake. He took it out of classified information."

Trump Offers Declassification

Trump added that he "may get him out of trouble by declassifying" the information, though it remains unclear what specific materials he alleges Obama disclosed. The accusation follows Obama's appearance on American podcast host Brian Tyler Cohen's show, where when asked about extraterrestrials, Obama responded: "They're real, but I haven't seen them."

Obama's Clarification

Obama subsequently posted on Instagram that he "was trying to stick with the spirit of the speed round." He elaborated: "Statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there's life out there. But the distances between solar systems are so great that the chances we've been visited by aliens are low, and I saw no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really!" During the podcast, Obama also dismissed Area 51 conspiracy theories, stating aliens "are not being kept in Area 51; there's no underground facility, unless there's this enormous conspiracy and they hid it from the president of the United States."
