Trump refuses to apologize to Pope Leo over Iran war divide

President Donald Trump refused to apologize to Pope Leo XIV after publicly attacking the pontiff over his stance on Iran, saying “Pope Leo said things that are wrong.” The pope, meanwhile, condemned violations of international law by “neocolonial” powers during a visit to Algeria.
US President Donald Trump on Monday declined to apologize to Pope Leo XIV following a weekend social media tirade in which he called the pontiff “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy.” Asked by reporters whether he owes an apology, Trump said: “No, I don’t, because Pope Leo said things that are wrong.”
Trump defends Iran stance, pope condemns ‘neocolonial’ powers
“He was very much against what I’m doing with regard to Iran, and you cannot have a nuclear Iran. Pope Leo would not be happy with the end result,” Trump said outside the Oval Office. Earlier Monday, during a visit to Algeria, Pope Leo condemned violations of international law by “neocolonial” powers without naming specific countries. The pontiff has repeatedly spoken out against the US-Israeli war on Iran and described conditions in Gaza as “unacceptable.”
Trump defends AI Jesus image
Trump also defended posting an AI-generated image of himself depicted as Jesus Christ, claiming it showed him as a doctor healing a patient. “I do make people better. I make people a lot better,” he said, dismissing criticism as “fake news.” The exchange highlights deepening tensions between the White House and the Vatican over the Iran war.
