Trump says Iran war ‘close to over,’ hints at renewed talks

President Donald Trump declared that the US-Israeli war on Iran is “close to over,” adding that Tehran “wants to make a deal very badly.” Trump suggested direct talks could resume in Pakistan within days, as a two-week ceasefire brokered by Islamabad continues to hold.
President Donald Trump stated in an interview set to air Wednesday that the US-Israeli war on Iran is nearing its end. Asked by Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo whether the conflict is “over,” Trump replied: “I think it’s close to over, yeah. I mean, I view it as very close to over.”
Trump: Iran wants a deal badly
In a video excerpt shared on the US-based social media platform X, Trump added: “You know what, if I pulled up stakes right now, it would take them 20 years to rebuild that country, and we’re not finished. We’ll see what happens. I think they want to make a deal very badly.” Earlier, Bartiromo posted on Instagram that Trump repeatedly referred to the Iran war in the past tense, prompting her to ask directly: “Is it over?” She described Trump as saying: “It’s over.”
Talks could resume in Pakistan
Weekend talks in Islamabad aimed at permanently ending the war, which began on Feb. 28, failed to reach an agreement, but efforts to hold another round are underway. Trump struck an upbeat tone Tuesday, saying direct US-Iranian talks could restart in Pakistan within two days. Pakistan brokered a two-week ceasefire on April 8, which remains in effect.
