Trump says Iran’s Supreme Leader involved in talks, they ‘seem to be getting along well’

President Trump told Pod Force One that Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is involved in negotiations to end the war, and that they “seem to be getting along quite well.” Trump said he would “probably meet” Khamenei “at some point.” He also claimed Iran has already agreed not to pursue nuclear weapons.
US President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is personally involved in negotiations to end the ongoing war between the US and Iran. “He’s involved, absolutely. Yeah, I think they have a lot of respect for him,” Trump said of Khamenei in an interview with Pod Force One. Trump added that he would like to meet the Iranian leader “at some point, depending on how it all works out.” The US president also claimed that Iran has already agreed not to develop nuclear weapons. “That was a big thing,” Trump said. “We can’t let them have a nuclear weapon … they’ve already agreed they’re not going to have a nuclear weapon.”
Nuclear justification and mediation
The US and Israel cited Iran’s nuclear program as the key reason for launching the war on Feb. 28. Trump stated that talks with Iran are “rapidly evolving, and it’s evolving good. It’s going to be very good.” He added that “lots of really good things are going to happen.” The conflict is currently on hold, and efforts for a permanent end continue under Pakistan’s mediation. Trump’s comments come despite recent Iranian missile and drone attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain, which the US and its allies intercepted. The apparent contradiction between ongoing hostilities and Trump’s optimistic tone raises questions about the true state of negotiations.
