Trump signs proclamation adjusting steel, aluminum tariffs

US President Donald Trump signed a proclamation Monday adjusting tariffs on steel, aluminum and copper imports, reducing rates on agricultural equipment to 15 percent and creating incentives for foreign firms to use US metals through December 2027, the White House said.
US President Donald Trump on Monday signed a proclamation adjusting tariffs on steel, aluminum and copper imports, cutting rates on agricultural machinery and expanding coverage to mobile industrial equipment through December 2027.
Tariff cuts on agricultural, industrial equipment
The White House stated that the order reduces tariffs on agricultural equipment — including combines and harvesters — from 25 percent to 15 percent. The proclamation also expands the existing industrial equipment category to include mobile machinery such as bulldozers and forklifts when imported from nations with trade agreements, subjecting them to the lower 15 percent rate, according to the statement.
Incentives for US steel and aluminum
The measures further encourage foreign manufacturers to utilize US-origin metals by offering a reduced 10 percent duty rate on capital equipment containing at least 85 percent US-melted or US-smelted steel and aluminum by weight. The administration framed these adjustments as temporary measures designed to incentivize near-term investment in American industrial capacity, the statement added.

Temporary measures through 2027
The tariff modifications will remain in effect until Dec. 31, 2027, targeting immediate investments to rebuild the nation’s industrial base. The changes apply to copper, steel and aluminum imports while maintaining broader tariff structures on other goods.
