Trump urges Israel and Iran to ‘immediately stop shooting’

President Trump called on Israel and Iran to halt tit-for-tat airstrikes “immediately,” adding that both sides are “looking to do an immediate ceasefire.” He reiterated that the US naval blockade of Iranian ports remains in full force until a final deal is reached. The appeal came after Israeli strikes on Iran and Iranian missile launches on Israel.
US President Donald Trump urged Israel and Iran to stop fighting “immediately” on Monday, following an exchange of airstrikes between the two countries. “Israel and Iran must immediately stop shooting,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. In a later post, he said both Tehran and Tel Aviv are “looking to do an immediate ceasefire.” Trump added that “final negotiations on peace are proceeding, subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way.” He reiterated that the US naval blockade on Iranian ports remains “in full force and effect, until a final deal is reached,” and said “things should move quickly.”
Renewed hostilities
Earlier Monday, an Israeli airstrike targeted a petrochemical firm in southwestern Iran, causing partial damage to the industrial complex, Iranian officials said. The attack came as air raid sirens sounded in several Israeli cities following Iranian missile launches. The region has been on edge since the US and Israel launched airstrikes on Iran in late February, triggering Iranian retaliation on Israel and Gulf states hosting US assets. A temporary ceasefire was reached on April 8 through Pakistani mediation, but negotiations later stalled amid disputes over implementation and subsequent regional developments.
