Trump weighs resuming military action against Iran

President Trump is reportedly growing frustrated with Iran’s handling of negotiations and is increasingly considering resuming military operations halted since April. The Strait of Hormuz remains closed, and some Pentagon officials are pushing for targeted strikes to weaken Tehran’s position.
US President Donald Trump has become exasperated with Iran’s approach to diplomatic talks and is now more seriously considering restarting military actions that have been on hold since April, according to a CNN report published Monday. Citing anonymous sources familiar with Trump’s discussions, CNN said the president is frustrated by Iran’s continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz and what he perceives as division within Iran’s senior leadership.
Internal debates and Iranian defiance
Trump has already dismissed Tehran’s latest response to Washington’s peace proposal as “totally unacceptable,” and on Monday he told reporters the ceasefire is on “massive life support.” According to CNN, some Pentagon officials are pushing for a more aggressive posture, including authorising targeted strikes to weaken Iran’s negotiating leverage. Others continue to advocate for additional diplomatic efforts. Regional officials told CNN that Pakistan and other countries have warned Iran that Trump’s patience is wearing thin, but Iranian officials have not heeded the warnings.
Iran’s warning and next steps
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf responded on X, stating that Iran’s military is “ready to give a memorable lesson to any aggression” and that Tehran is prepared for “all options.” He added that there is “no alternative” but to accept the rights outlined in Iran’s 14-point proposal. CNN reported that Trump met with his national security team on Monday to discuss Iran options, though a decision on resuming military operations is unlikely before the president departs for China on Tuesday afternoon.
