Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will participate in a key meeting on Gaza in Miami, joining officials from the United States, Qatar, and Egypt. The talks, led by U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, will focus on advancing the ceasefire agreement's next phase, which includes complex issues like a stabilization force and post-conflict governance.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will participate in a high-level meeting in Miami, Florida, on Friday, focused on the ongoing situation in Gaza and the next steps of the ceasefire agreement. The Turkish Foreign Ministry confirmed the talks will include representatives from the United States, Egypt, and Qatar, and will also address broader regional issues.

Agenda: Implementing the Next Phase of the Ceasefire

The discussions, led by U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, aim to address the implementation of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire, which took effect nearly two months ago. The initial phase halted hostilities, facilitated a partial Israeli withdrawal, included prisoner exchanges, and allowed full humanitarian aid access. The subsequent phase, outlined in a U.S. plan, envisions the deployment of an international stabilization force, the disarmament of Hamas, a full Israeli withdrawal, and the formation of a temporary "technocratic" Palestinian committee to administer Gaza.

Context of Violations and Humanitarian Toll

The meeting occurs against a backdrop of Palestinian accusations that Israel has repeatedly violated the ceasefire terms. According to Gaza's Health Ministry, Israeli attacks since the truce began have resulted in hundreds of Palestinian casualties. The preceding two-year war, which started in October 2023, inflicted a devastating humanitarian cost, with over 70,000 deaths and 170,000 injuries reported, predominantly among women and children.

Türkiye's Active Diplomatic Role

Minister Fidan's attendance underscores Türkiye's active and committed diplomatic role in seeking a lasting resolution to the conflict. As a regional power with significant political and humanitarian stakes, Türkiye consistently advocates for Palestinian rights, a sustainable ceasefire, and a credible pathway to a two-state solution. Its participation alongside key mediators like Qatar and Egypt reinforces its position as an influential voice in Middle Eastern diplomacy and its determination to shape the post-conflict future of Gaza.
