During his official visit to Ankara, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung committed to strengthening the strategic partnership with Türkiye. Key agreements focused on advancing cooperation in defense projects, nuclear energy, and artificial intelligence, with both nations pledging to pass this robust alliance on to future generations.

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, on a two-day official visit to Ankara, declared a firm resolve to deepen strategic cooperation with Türkiye, with a significant focus on joint defense projects, advanced technology, and nuclear energy. Speaking at a joint press conference with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Lee outlined a future where the bilateral partnership grows stronger and is sustained for generations to come. He emphasized that Türkiye's unique position as a bridge between Europe and Asia provides a critical gateway for South Korean companies aiming to access European markets.

Defense Industry Collaboration

President Lee underscored the mutual determination to continue and expand defense cooperation, building upon existing trust. This includes joint production initiatives, technology sharing, and training exchanges. He highlighted the successful Altay tank project as a model for future endeavors, stating that such cooperation enhances both nations' defense industrial capabilities and contributes to global peace.

Energy and Economic Initiatives

The leaders also addressed major energy projects, with the South Korean president pledging advanced nuclear technology support for Türkiye's development plans, specifically mentioning the Sinop Nuclear Power Plant Project. Both governments agreed to provide necessary support for a smooth negotiation process. Furthermore, Lee welcomed the involvement of South Korean firms in Türkiye's domestic biotech production and announced the revival of the Joint Economic Commission after a decade-long hiatus to review progress across multiple sectors.

Regional Peace and Historical Ties

Regional issues were also on the agenda, with President Lee expressing gratitude for Türkiye's consistent support for Seoul's policy towards North Korea. He also appreciated Ankara's peace efforts in the Middle East and its meaningful work regarding solutions for Syrian refugees. Following the meetings, President Erdoğan hosted a dinner in honor of the visiting leader, which was also attended by Turkish veterans of the Korean War, symbolizing the deep historical bonds between the two nations.
