Türkiye, UK and France to deploy Ukraine peace force under post-war plan

French President Emmanuel Macron said troops from Türkiye, the UK and France could take part in a peacekeeping mission across Ukraine once a settlement with Russia is reached. He stressed that these forces would operate away from active battlefields, focusing on security and training duties. The proposal highlights Türkiye’s continued diplomatic and military relevance in efforts to end the Ukraine-Russia war.
President Emmanuel Macron said a future peace agreement in the Ukraine-Russia war could see Türkiye, the United Kingdom and France sending units to help secure areas far from the front line, including Kyiv and Odesa. His remarks followed discussions held with international partners during an online summit focused on a path to end the conflict.
Security forces envisioned for post-conflict phase
Macron described the concept as forming a “guarantee force,” designed to provide stability in regions where Ukrainian authorities regroup. These soldiers would not be participating in combat but would contribute to training and security tasks once a peace deal is established.
Türkiye positioned as key participant
According to Macron, the plan foresees personnel from French and European armies joined by British and Turkish troops “on the day peace is signed,” underscoring Türkiye’s expanded role in European security frameworks. He noted that this mission would differ from long-term multinational deployments and would instead be connected to commitments made under a future agreement.
Broad international involvement expected
The French leader said around 20 nations have already expressed readiness to support operations in air, land and naval domains when conditions allow. The initiative follows ongoing debates surrounding the US-backed peace proposal, as well as continued diplomatic engagement involving President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and other coalition partners.
