Türkiye urges coalition to empower Syria in unified fight against Daesh

Türkiye has called for a unified international approach that empowers the Syrian state in the ongoing fight against the Daesh terrorist group. The position was outlined by Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Musa Kulaklıkaya during the Global Coalition Against Daesh Political Directors' Meeting held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Advocating for Syrian sovereignty and capacity

Kulaklıkaya stressed that the Syrian state, as a coalition member, should be recognized as the sole legitimate actor in the counterterrorism effort within its borders. He argued that strengthening Syria's own counter-terrorism capabilities is essential for ensuring long-term stability and an effective, sustainable campaign against Daesh. This approach, he noted, must proceed in accordance with Türkiye's national security priorities.

Linking counterterrorism to political process

The Turkish diplomat linked the military effort to a political resolution, highlighting the importance of completing the ceasefire and integration process in Syria based on the country's territorial integrity and unity. He advocated for a coordinated and inclusive strategy within the coalition framework, asserting that such an approach would contribute to lasting security outcomes in the region.
