Türkiye's UN Ambassador Ahmet Yıldız

Türkiye's UN Ambassador Ahmet Yildiz has highlighted Syria's significant advancements since the Assad regime's collapse, urging complete sovereignty restoration and sanctions removal. He emphasized that normalization will accelerate when Damascus controls all natural resources for all Syrians' benefit.

Türkiye's United Nations representative has acknowledged substantial progress in Syria's political transition following the collapse of the Assad administration last December. Ambassador Ahmet Yildiz informed the Security Council that despite considerable challenges, the Syrian government has achieved notable advances while steadily enhancing constructive engagement with international partners.

Political Transition and International Relations

Ambassador Yildiz pointed to recent People's Assembly elections as evidence of the government's dedication to inclusive national dialogue and political normalization. He asserted that Syria's international rehabilitation would gain momentum once the Damascus administration manages all natural resources for the benefit of all Syrian citizens, emphasizing the importance of lifting remaining economic sanctions.

Security Concerns and Regional Stability

The Turkish diplomat expressed serious concerns about the SDF terrorist organization's activities, noting local communities' growing dissatisfaction with the group's ideological impositions and coercive practices. He called for northeastern provinces' reintegration under Damascus authority and Syrian government control over camps and detention centers to facilitate accelerated, properly managed repatriation processes.

Sovereignty and Israeli Withdrawal Demands

Yildiz demanded Israel's complete withdrawal from occupied Syrian territories, stressing the essential nature of upholding Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity. He emphasized full compliance with the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement and respect for all regional nations' sovereignty, referencing Israel's recent expansion into the Golan Heights buffer zone.
