UAE condemns Iranian missile launch toward Turkish airspace

The United Arab Emirates has issued a strong condemnation of Iran's attempted ballistic missile strike targeting Turkish airspace, describing the act as a "serious escalation" and "flagrant violation of state sovereignty." Abu Dhabi warned that expanding attacks to additional countries undermines de-escalation efforts and heightens regional tensions.

The United Arab Emirates delivered a sharp diplomatic rebuke to Tehran on Thursday following the attempted Iranian ballistic missile strike directed at Turkish airspace. In an official statement, the UAE Foreign Ministry characterized the hostile act as a dangerous escalation that threatens the fundamental principles of state sovereignty and regional stability.

Abu Dhabi: Attack violates international norms

The ministry's statement, issued in response to Wednesday's incident, declared that such hostile actions represent a "serious escalation, a flagrant violation of state sovereignty, and a direct threat to regional security and stability." Emirati officials emphasized that "expansion of attacks to additional countries is unacceptable and condemned under all legal and political norms, and constitutes a serious escalation that undermines de-escalation efforts and heightens regional tensions." The condemnation places the UAE firmly alongside Türkiye in rejecting Iranian military overreach.

NATO intercepts Iranian projectile

Wednesday's incident saw a ballistic munition launched from Iranian territory toward Turkish airspace successfully intercepted and neutralized by NATO air and missile defense units operating in the Eastern Mediterranean. The Turkish National Defense Ministry confirmed that the projectile, detected after passing through Iraqi and Syrian airspace, was engaged by air defenses with interceptor debris landing in Hatay province's Dortyol district. No casualties were reported, though the incident marked a dangerous expansion of the conflict zone.

Regional tensions continue to mount

The UAE's condemnation reflects growing concern among Gulf states about the widening scope of the confrontation between Iran and US-led forces. Since Saturday's coordinated American-Israeli strikes on Iranian territory, which reportedly killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and nearly 1,000 others, Tehran has launched retaliatory attacks against both Israeli targets and Gulf nations hosting American military assets. The expansion of Iranian operations to target NATO member Türkiye represents a significant escalation that threatens to draw additional regional and international actors into the conflict, further destabilizing an already volatile Middle East.
