UN says Gaza aid access remains limited despite ceasefire

The United Nations reports that humanitarian access to Gaza remains severely restricted by Israel despite the ongoing ceasefire. Only 13% of Gaza's cropland remains undamaged, with most inaccessible due to Israeli military presence, creating continued food production challenges.
The United Nations has reported that Israel continues to impose significant restrictions on humanitarian aid access to Gaza despite the current ceasefire arrangement. UN spokesperson Farhan Haq stated that while some aid delivery has occurred, "impediments are not being lifted quickly enough" to meet the population's urgent needs, with only two crossings operational and no direct access to northern or southern Gaza.

Limited Aid Delivery and Access Constraints
According to Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) data, the UN and partner organizations have collected over 37,000 metric tons of aid, primarily food, from Gaza's crossings. However, entry remains limited to just two border points, with no direct access from Israel to northern Gaza or from Egypt to southern Gaza, and additional restrictions on certain items and NGO staff entry.

Agricultural Destruction and Food Security Crisis
A UN analysis reveals devastating damage to Gaza's agricultural infrastructure, with only 13% of cropland remaining undamaged and most of that inaccessible due to ongoing Israeli military deployment. The assessment found that 79-89% of greenhouse areas, agricultural wells, and farming infrastructure have been damaged, while nearly 89% of orchard trees, particularly olive trees, have been either damaged or completely destroyed.

Humanitarian Conditions and Displacement
The majority of displaced Palestinians remain in overcrowded makeshift sites, many established spontaneously in open or unsafe areas. Local food production continues to face extreme challenges, compounding the humanitarian crisis in a territory where Israeli military operations have resulted in approximately 69,000 fatalities and over 170,600 injuries since October 2023.
