The US Embassy in Oman urged American citizens Monday evening to shelter in place and stock essential supplies amid escalating regional hostilities. The advisory comes as the US-Israeli offensive against Iran enters its fourth week, with Tehran retaliating through drone and missile strikes targeting Gulf nations hosting American military assets.

The US Embassy in Oman issued a shelter-in-place advisory Monday evening, directing American citizens in the Gulf nation to secure safe locations as regional tensions continue to mount. In a statement posted on social media platform X, the embassy advised US nationals “to find a secure location within your residence or another safe building” and to ensure adequate supplies of food, water, medications and other essentials.

Precautionary measures detailed

The advisory urged Americans to maintain communication with family and friends, keep travel documents updated and easily accessible, and monitor official news outlets for guidance. “In case of an attack, stay away from any debris, and monitor news outlets for official guidance,” the embassy stated. Citizens were also advised to avoid protests, maintain a low profile, remain aware of their surroundings and enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program for updates.

Regional context and Türkiye’s position

The advisory comes amid sustained hostilities that began Feb. 28 when the United States and Israel launched a joint offensive against Iran. The conflict has claimed more than 1,340 lives, including Iran’s then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, according to Iranian authorities. Tehran has responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets—causing casualties, infrastructure damage and disruptions to global markets and aviation. Türkiye, which maintains diplomatic and economic ties throughout the region, continues to urge restraint and advocate for de-escalation, warning that further instability threatens its own security and economic interests.
