US special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner arrived in Doha on Tuesday to meet mediators and discuss the course of diplomatic negotiations with Iran, though Qatar's Foreign Ministry confirmed no high-level meeting between Washington and Tehran is currently scheduled.
US special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner arrived in Doha on Tuesday to meet mediators regarding negotiations with Iran, Qatar's Foreign Ministry said. Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari told local media that "there is no high-level meeting currently scheduled between the US and Iran."
No direct talks planned
Al-Ansari added that Witkoff and Kushner "will not meet directly" with Iranian officials during their visit to the Qatari capital. The delegation's discussions aim to outline parameters for potential engagement, though no timeline has been established.
Frozen funds
Al-Ansari stated that the transfer of $6 billion from $12 billion in frozen Iranian funds "will be agreed upon by the US and Iran." He noted that the issue "is linked to the progress of negotiations between Washington and Tehran," according to Qatari media.
