US Envoys in Egypt for High-Stakes Gaza Ceasefire Negotiations

Senior US envoys, including Jared Kushner, have arrived in Sharm El-Sheikh to mediate indirect talks between Hamas and Israel. The negotiations, based on a Trump administration proposal, aim to secure a ceasefire and a prisoner exchange deal to end the prolonged conflict in Gaza.
High-level American diplomats have landed in Egypt to participate in critical ceasefire talks aimed at ending the war in Gaza. According to a report from Axios, US envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who is also former President Donald Trump's son-in-law, arrived in Sharm El-Sheikh early Wednesday to join the indirect negotiations.
The delegation's involvement follows a briefing with Trump and his national security team on the status of the Gaza negotiations. US officials accompanying the envoys expressed a guarded optimism that a deal could be finalized this week, with one source emphasizing their determination not to depart without an agreement on a hostage release and a cessation of hostilities.
The talks, which commenced earlier in the week, are seeing increased diplomatic engagement. Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani is also scheduled to arrive in the Egyptian resort city to bolster the mediation efforts. The negotiations are centered on a 20-point plan unveiled by Trump in September, which Hamas has agreed to in principle.

The proposed agreement outlines a path for a truce, involving the release of all Israeli captives in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held in Israel. The broader framework also includes provisions for the disarmament of Hamas and a major reconstruction initiative for Gaza, which has endured significant devastation and a severe humanitarian crisis since the conflict's onset.
